August 1872 die 3.178&nbsp;km lange Telegraphenverbindung zwischen Adelaide und Darwin geschlossen wurde. Von Darwin bestand eine Verbindung \u00fcber ein Unterseekabel nach Indonesien und von dort weiter \u00fcber Land durch Asien, Indien, den Nahen Osten nach Europa. Nachrichten nach England ben\u00f6tigten dann nicht mehr bis zu 100 Tage bei Bef\u00f6rderung mit einem Schiff, sondern nur noch Stunden.<\/p>\n<p>Wir freuten uns nach vier Fahrtagen und der heutigen, langen Etappe mit viel Gegenwind auf einen Ruhetag hier in Elliott. Der Campingplatz ist jedoch nicht besonders einladend und deswegen haben wir uns entschieden, Morgen weiterzufahren. Anders als wir es von den Roadhouses gewohnt sind, wird hier kein Essen angeboten, so dass wir uns selbst versorgen mussten. Wie schon so oft ist hier kein WiFi verf\u00fcgbar.
